ChannelLock – My newest addon project

I’ve got a bunch of projects under development right now, but the one I’ve been spending the most time on recently is called ChannelLock.

As a guild leader & raid leader, I find that I need to be in a number of non-standard channels. We use channels for raid leaders, for healers, for staying in touch with old guildies, etc. One thing that always bugged the crap out of me was when my channels would go away, or just as bad, change channel numbers.

I expect to be able to type /6 and be talking in our Raid Leader channel. Or /5 and be in our old alliance channel. But sometimes they move. Or drop. Or whatever. And when I login a new toon, or one I haven’t played in a long time, I expect my channels to be there.

For some reason, Blizzard didn’t give us a solution to this in the game. In fact, they don’t make it very easy in the API either. I have to jump through a number of hoops to make it work. But I do now have something that works and has a reasonable configuration UI.

I know it has bugs right now, which is why I haven’t released it. But if you wanna try it out and find bugs, please file them on the CurseForge tracker.

Welcome!

Welcome to The Emerald Dream, a blog about my experiences playing and hacking World of Warcraft. My name is Quaiche and I am a Druid on the Dragonblight-US realm.

The name of this blog comes from the Warcraft lore where the Emerald Dream is the realm of the Dragon Aspect Ysera. To those who travel within it, it appears as Azeroth would have appeared had the sentient races not appeared. Druids, because of their natural affinity to nature can travel in the Emerald Dream as described in The Sundering by Richard A Knaack.

I am a feral druid who loves tanking more than playing kitty cat. I’m an addon author and minor WoW theorycrafter. I’ve been cursorily involved in the WowAce & Rawr development. I’m also the guild leader for Benevolent Thuggery, one of the largest and oldest casual raiding guilds on Dragonblight. (We’ve been around since July 2005 and consistently have about 150 members and about 500 toons.)

So that’s a little about me and the kinds of thing you can expect me to be blogging about here.

Enjoy!
